then we matched the names on
our valentines to the names on the Clifford valentine holder.
We delivered and opened our valentines,
then we either taped them into a book or made them into a placemat
(they taped onto paper and I covered with contact... we added
some cut out hearts and stickers for color)! This is a great solution
for that "what do I do with the bag of Valentines" dilema!
Here are some of our "Mammal"
Projects........
We read the story, I Went Walking,
and made a class book to go with it
It took us 2 language arts sesssions
to complete the pages...the first day we drew the animal with
black permanent marker on a white paper, and on a second paper
we colored the background with chalk. The next session we decided
what color we wanted our animals, and we used glue and tissue
to color them.... when they were dry, Miss Shaynee cut them out
for us. On this same day, we also wrote the color word and the
name of our animal to fill in the text.
.
We used Jan Brett's The Mitten
to talk about the three parts to
a story - the beginning, middle, and end. We drew then watercolored
the animals in the story, and we watercolored a mitten to go around
our display
We read the story over and over.....
we made the characters in the story, and we will made them into
our own big book...
We also did lots with mud (a big
player in the story).... we acted out the story with mud (pudding)
and animal cookies....
(The mud puddle with the animals
in it and the bathtub)
We even put our hands into real
mud, described how it felt.....
and Miss Shaynee took our words
and made them into a poem....
We read the story,
Mice Squeak, We Speak,
then we painted our own animals and
described the noises they made. We decorated the background of
our pages like the pages from the book.
We hung them all up - it
made a great display!
We read the story, Martha
Speaks, then we used speech bubbles to make our dogs speak. We
named them, wrote in our speech bubbles, then illustrated the
frame around our picture with the ABCs just like the cover of
the book
"Can I have some cereal?"
"I am cool."
"Soup please"
We read the story, The Farmer
Didn't Wake Up, and we made animals masks and acted out the story...
we did this for several days - we loved it!!!
Mammal Poems
We picked our favorite mammal, drew
it in permanent marker, watercolored it in, then we wrote a poem
about it.
