 Our Trip to the Moon

Pictures now up (1/25) from Winnie the Pooh Day
  Pooh Day!!

Happy 2004..........our songs for the New Year

We are working on the letter Ww and talked about wild.... we made Wild Books from this pocket chart, and we also read the story, Where the Wild Things Are

We drew our own wild things.....

On Friday, we also got to watch the Wild Things video!!

In language arts we talked about syllables and graphed the number of syllables in our names.

We also played a space memory game... we matched objects to their beginning sounds

Math Fun

We made rockets out of tangrams

We are working on money/nickels and counting by 5s...we traced our hand, decorated, and glued a nickel to our palm.

Our theme this month is the Solar System.... we talked about the sun, the moon, the planets, rockets, space vehicles, aliens and UFOs.

A MUST HAVE CD for anyone doing the solar system... I got it at the Kindergarten conference years ago.... now they only place I can find it is Kimbo.com

Here is our favorite experiment...

Jet propulsion....

we talked about how space shuttles take off.... using a balloon, straw, air, and string I demonstrated how the air from the balloon comes out and forces the balloon along the string....we used different amounts of air and predicted (using our name strips on the floor), where the balloon would stop based on the amount of air... we figured out that the bigger the balloon, the more air, and the further it went!

Two of our favorite books that went with the experiment

We made astronauts out of tin foil!

We learned astronauts are weightless in space, but still need exercise....here we are doing the weightless workout song

The Moon

For all you who know about Laika the Rockeet dog (the kids are amazed she is still looming around in space somewhere) the song is from.......
 (I'm finding a link...check back soon)

We talked about the moon, and did a neat moon project...... 1st we balloon painted our moons...

When they were dry, we cut them and glued them on blue paper. We added stars, and we wrote one fact we remembered about the moon...

  They turned out great!!

When we talked about the sun, we made sun visors...

We read Space Case and talked about aliens. We drew space aliens with permanent markers, watercolored them in, then at the language arts table we each wrote a poem to go along with our paintings.

We also loved talking about UFOs, so we read Haunted Planet.. we then made UFOs to fly out on the playground... we used paper plates and/or bowls stapled together, and we foam painted them...

We also made name rockets... we counted the letters in our names and wrote our names on the appropriate sized rockets (with one letter in each square on the rocket)........ then we displayed the results....

We made telescopes and constellation cards

We love to pretend... here we are pretending like we are in a long space shuttle...

We made edible rockets using a 1/4 banana, pinapple, cottage cheese "smoke"(at the bottom under the licorice "fire"). We used mini marshmallows on the banana... yummmmy

We have lots of neat space things for free choice time... we love the flannel board...
