 Snake Snack

we used colored ccookie dough to make our snakes.... making them is fun but the best part is always eating!

We made snake puppets out of socks... we colored them with permanent markers, then added foam and wiggley eyes, a tongue, and some spots.

We used our snake puppets to demonstrate the lump that the snake's prey leaves after they swallow it whole.....

We read the story, The Day Jimmy's Boa Constrictor Ate the Wash, then we made our own snake book.....because we live in California, we made a rattlesnake book.....we used a pattern from Mailbox Magazine.... we loved the beads we used for the rattle and the brad for the fangs....

In language arts, we also read the story A Color of His Own, and we did chameleon camouflage...

we painted the background page one day, then the next we glued on a white chameleon... we colored him with markers to mix in with his surroundings....

Can you find our chameleons???

Another reptile we talked about was the turtle. We made turtle bowl puppets, put a car underneath them, and had turtle races.

Also this month was amphibians.... We read the story, Jump, Frog, Jump, and we painted frogs and things that we would find in a pond.... we then wrote on sentence strips where we wanted our frogs to jump (on the lillypad, over the snake, etc.)....when we were alldone we turned it into a bulletin board.

We used Ed Emberly's Drawing book to help us (step by step) draw different kinds of frogs...we used a permanent black marker, then we painted them in with foam paint

we also made balloon frogs or headbands, then we had frog races with them... fun, fun, fun!!!

We also made frog masks... to show their long, fast, sticky tongues, we used party blowers....

Our Venn diagram showed the similarities and differences between reptiles and amphibians

In language arts we are working on the letter Dd. To help us distinguish between lower case d and b, we used a donut and a baseball bat (stick)..... if the donut is first, then it is the letter Dd.... if the baseball bat is first, then it is the letter Bb. Our favorite part was eating...yummmmmmmy!!

We also worked on the letter Qq...here is our class quilt
