For the letter Tt, we made tape pictures... we used scotch tape to make a picture, then watercolored over it... we used a wipey to wipe off the scotch tape (if any paint stuck to the top)... and we had beautiful pictures..

For the letter Hh, we made Hats & Hamburgers

Language Arts

 We played the
Gumball Guess Game... the kids had to read the gumball to peek underneath.... if they found Gus the Ghost under the gumball they got a sticker... we also made a mini version of this game to play at home

We played a guess can game.. matching objects we pulled out of the Guess Can with the letter they begin with under the cards on the table.

We also played Jack-O... a bingo game using capital and lower case letters, and using spiders as bingo markers... 5 spiders in a row wins Jack-).

We made Triangle Games - otherwise known as "Cootie Catchers" ... using stickers under the triangles that begin with the corresponding letters.

We also made an innovation on the book, Brown Bear... We used copies of the family pictures that the children brought in.... the first page is below, and the middle pages were the people in the children'ts families... the last page said, "I see my family lookikng at me" and we put a family picture. This book was a little bit of work, but the children really enjoyed them.

To practice the sight words in and out, we played a spider game... if the kids spun and landed on in, they put a spider in their basket... if they landed on out, they had to take one out.. the first person to get 10 spiders in their basket wins.

Math Activiites

I must have been hiding the camera at the language arts table because we didn't take many math photos this month...

This is a fun spinning game where the kids got to put body parts on a spider depending on the number they spin... first person to complete their spider is the winner...

Social Studies

We continued to talk about our bodies, and we talked about our feet. We read Dr. Seuss' The Foot Book, and we took a "foot walk".... we walked through rice, pebbles, salt, flour, and water. We liked stepping in the flour the best!!

we also figured out what we could pick up with our toes...

At the end of our walk, Miss Margaret painted our foot... we will use the footprint to do some measurement at the math table.

We talked about how to keep our bodies healthy. We read the story, The Hungry Caterpillar, by Eric Carle, and we graphed the healthy foods the caterpillar ate vs. the unhealthy foods.

We checked out our lunchboxes, and found our how healthy our lunches were!!

We also listened to the Raffi song, Going on a Picnic, and talked about the healthy foods in the song. We are making a big book to go along with the song. Our first step was painting the background for the pages..

We made the people to go in the book and colored the foods too.....

....ask your child to "read" this book to you!!!

Germs

We need to eat healthy foods, but to keep our bodies healthy, we also need to keep the germs away....for Science Friday, we did a Germ Experiment...

First we passed around a potato, and spread our germs on it with our hands, and put it in a plastic bag....then we washed our hands with lots of soap and water. Next, we passed around another potato with clean hands..hopefully the soap got rid of all the germs...and put it in a separate bag!!

Keep an eye on those potato bags for the next few weeks....lets see what the germs do to that potato - YUCK!!!!

Halloween Decorations

 Hanging Bats

A stuffed black sock, poster board wings, and fun foam (or felt) eyes, nose, mouth)

 Ghosts

We made ghosts our of tissue paper, glue, and black yarn
